Help Us Build Your New Library!

Our community deserves the library promised by the City of San Diego’s Library Master Plan!

The current Kensington-Normal Heights Library is outdated and overcrowded. The city’s Library General Plan includes a new, modern library for our community and the perfect location at 35th and Adams Avenue, formerly DeMille’s, is nowavailable now but will not last!

Let’s make our voices heard and ensure the city fulfills its promise to our community. Together, we can create a vibrant, educational, and welcoming space for everyone! Sign the Petition for Our New Library!

The Vision

Our community envisions a branch library that:

▪  Has the capacity to serve the community current and projected future population.

▪  Is welcoming, well-functioning, and well-maintained.

▪  Ensures equitable access to library services and spaces for the community

Action Oriented

“The City should evaluate opportunities and take proactive steps to secure alternate sites where needed for the recommended replacement and new library projects.”

Library Master Plan p. 7

More Than Words

On November 6, 2023, the San Diego City Council unanimously approved the Library Master Plan. Now is the time to fulfill this promise.

Equitable

All parts of the city require accessible, well-designed library space with enough capacity to meet community needs and demands.

Experiential

“Large branches are the best model for the future of San Diego’s library network in many respects: greater depth and diversity of service; more space and choices for people to read, work, and connect.”

Library Master Plan p. 16

Inviting

Libraries to be attractive, modern, and have dedicated spaces for diverse purposes, incorporating art and culture reflecting the community and San Diego.

“The library and its services are equitable, engaging and experiential, geographically accessible everywhere, and empowered with the necessary resources to thrive.”
